Cheers to 2016
Well it's here, whether I am ready for it, or not.
2016 was brought in with cranberry apple cider and a kiss from my favorite guy. The green sparkly dress I wore definitely itched me most of the night, but it was worth it, because it was fabulous.
I spent most of my 2 weeks off watching gilmore girls, or trying to get in my fitbit steps because Lord knows I consumed more calories than a professional football team.
Jonny had to work for most of the break which God bless him, because every morning when he got up to leave for work, I'm sure I was snoring and sprawled all over our bed, because I most definitely was not prioritizing working out, or cleaning our house, or ya know anything else you are supposed to use a break from work for.
On December 23, my younger sister got engaged! It was so wonderful and she was so surprised and every bit of it was fabulous! So was the 10 hours of driving we did in 24 hours to be there for this glorious occasion. The only reason I made it out of the car alive with my dad for 10 hours, is because my youngest sister who has the personality of Kristen Wig was along for the ride. I literally could not stop laughing the entire ride because of her comments. My dad would swerve in and out of traffic, and she would make some sarcastic comment. He would cut someone off and she would yell "Merry Christmas!" She showed me a Adele "hello" parody and I cried I was laughing so hard. My mom was so exhausted from all the planning she slept most of the way. And by slept, I mean snored loudly so no one else could rest. I am pretty sure my dad wanted to kill all of us. oh well.
The relationship that my sisters and I have is pretty special. My parents worked there butts off to cultivate a place where we could feel safe, and loved by one another, and to this day we will pretty much do anything for each other. Like drive 5 hours to see one of us get engaged and then drive another 5 hours home. I love that about my family, and I don't know many families that love
like we do. We sacrifice for each other. We love deeply. We do crazy
things for each other, and go to the ends of the earth to make each other feel special.
We make each other cry and laugh, and we know each other at our core,
and man is it something special to be apart of.
Her smile alone was worth the torment of driving with my father. in a car. the day before Christmas. for 10 hours.
I digress.
Weddings. I love them and I just know I'm gonna be a bawl bag when she walks down the aisle. When she asks me to be her matron of honor (wink wink) when she opens her first bridal registry gift, and when we spend hours at the spa for her bachelorette party. Just cue the tears now, because Lord help me, I still see that girl with little curls in her hair and her new yorker accent holding her "baybees."
Shanney Rose, know that I love you more than my luggage, and I am so happy for you and Jay. You're going to make an amazing wife and mamma someday and I am honored to be your sister.
Onto the Traditions and gloriousness of Christmas.
Christmas Eve was spent with Jonny's family and I think my favorite part is spending time with the niece and nephew I inherited through marriage. I love those little stinkers. Walker is 5 and too smart for his own good, and little Payton will just snuggle you and then get up and start running around. I just adore them and Christmas through the eyes of a child is priceless. I really enjoyed spending time with them on Christmas Eve and love the traditions they share.
Christmas morning is just JT and I. I begged him to come open presents with me, and even bribed him with homemade breakfast! He eventually came downstairs and we opened presents that we bought for each other, so it was a pretty quick "I love these shoes!" "Thanks for the jeans" kinda christmas.
Hey, whatever works right?
Then we headed to my parents house which is personally my favorite, because I have been doing Christmas morning there since I was a little girl and it just holds all kinda memories for this little heart of mine.
Favorite moment of the day
Jonny was opening one of his gifts which justt so happened to be a deoterant, body wash combo of his favorite scent. He says " Thanks bubs & scott" (which are my parents)
My grammy's jaw drops
"Bubs & Scott?? That is from GRAMMY! Check the tag again!"
I died.
Poor JT.
It was a great Christmas, a great new years, and in a few weeks, we celebrate JT's birthday and I can hardly wait. I need to start planning for that. Prayers are welcomed, because heaven help me.. I am known to get all excited about the gift I got him, and then he opens it and his face looks as if he just opened a box of socks. Men.
Anyways, I am not much of a resolutions girl, only because I know myself and that resolution to not eat chocolate just won't last past January 3. So I'm just going to keep working hard and pressing into who God is shaping me to be, less like me and more like him.
That's my goal for 2016
More of Christ, Less of Kelly.
